Contrary to the views upheld by some Macedonian historians, there is no doubt the Ilinden Uprising, seen as the crowning moment of the national-liberation struggles of the Macedonian and Thracian Bulgarians, is Bulgarian in its nature, former Prime Minister of Macedonia Ljubco Georgievski wrote on Facebook.

Georgievski goes on to support his thesis with the fact that the organization which prepared and proclaimed the uprising was called Bulgarian Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Committee, its correspondence was solely in the Bulgarian language, all of its leaders were exarch teachers or Bulgarian officers, and the financial and military help the uprising received came from Bulgaria where the rebel detachments were organized and where they trained.
