Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has arrived in Varna to participate in the European Union-Turkey meeting. President of the European Council, Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, arrive from Brussels for the forum.

Before heading for Bulgaria, Erdogan said Turkey's EU accession remained a strategic goal for Ankara. He pointed out that the stronger the dialogue between Turkey and Bulgaria, the more useful this would be for the entire Balkan peninsula. Erdogan also expressed gratitude to "friendly and neighboring Bulgaria" for the organization of the meeting, pointing out that he woulkd first discuss bilateral relations with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.

Speaking about Ankara's views on counter-terrorism, Erdogan said: "Turkey expects unreserved and clear European support for terrorism without "but". He pointed out that he would remind once again of the double standards that Turkey had suffered and that the European position on the refugee drama in the Aegean Sea was not sincere.
