The illegal manufacture of excise goods will be subject to prosecution, this will be laid down in the Penal Code, Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov said.

At this time only possession and sale of illicit cigarettes and alcohol is subject to prosecution, not their manufacture. Amendments to the law will make machines and equipment for the manufacture of excise goods subject to registration.

In the words of the Prosecutor General every year the country is defrauded of close to 250 million euro from illegal cigarette sales. A large portion of the cigarettes produced illegally in Bulgaria are sold abroad at a high price.
