Bulgaria has sent an explanatory memorandum to the Council of the European Union containing a framework position on the accession of North Macedonia to the Union, BNR informs. The document is supported by all political parties represented at the Bulgarian National Assembly. The memorandum states explicitly that Skopje must strictly adhere to the principles and the values of the EU and the good neighbor agreement signed between Bulgaria and North Macedonia in 2017.

Blocking the Joint Bulgaria-North Macedonia Commission on Educational and Historical Issues, suspending all Bulgarian investments in the country and persecuting politicians who openly reveal the truth about the common past of the two countries is completely unacceptable for Sofia, the memorandum reads.
