Former Minister of Finance Vladislav Goranov was intercepted, at the Bulgaria-Serbia border, driving a leased car on Interpol, Russia’s stolen vehicles list, the Interior Ministry press service has confirmed for the BNR.

Vladislav Goranov bought the vehicle on hire purchase from a well-known leasing company which represents several car makes in this country. After it transpired there was a problem involving the car, the former GERB party finance minister turned back, and a few hours later crossed the border in another vehicle.

Atanas Furnadzhiev, director of the leasing company and Vice President of the Bulgarian Football Union told the BNR that the automobile mafia creates “clones” of expensive cars by fitting false number plates, a frame and an engine to a regular vehicle.

The Interior Ministry has launched a probe to establish how the stolen car entered this country, pending an investigation.
