There Is Such a People proposes legislative amendments concerning referendums

The rules for holding referendums need to be changed because they hold back citizens’ initiatives. With this motive, There Is Such a People (ITN) party will put forward amendments to the legislation that will facilitate them.

The ITN parliamentary group announced it would initiate the formation of a working group, with the participation of all formations represented in parliament, to draft amendments to the Direct Citizen Participation Act. Stanislav Balabanov from ITN, who is chair of the Committee on Direct Participation of Citizens and Interaction with Civil Society, stated that it was thanks to the referendum held in 2016, initiated by Slavi’s Show, that ITN was set up as a political force representing a not insignificant number of Bulgarians. ITN is also working on proposals for amendments to the Political Parties Act to bring the party subsidy down to half a euro per vote and to revoke the right to use property free of charge.
