Poultry farmers ready for national protest

Photo: library

The Association of Industrial Poultry in Bulgaria has announced its readiness for a nation-wide protest. Poultry farmers have warned that if their demands were not heard by June 8, they would organize egg throwing competitions in front of the Council of Ministers in Sofia, targeting portraits of ministers responsible for bankruptcies in the sector. Their demands are for a 5% reduction in VAT, continued support under Covid measures and the crisis budget granted by the European Commission for economic losses of producers, as well as the opening of a credit line through the State Fund "Agriculture" for low-interest loans for buying fodder. Chairman of the association, Daniel Bozhankov, has told the BNR that so far the only way to deal with the series of crises for poultry farmers has been taking more loans from commercial banks.
