Bulgarian grain producers call for meeting with the Minister of Agriculture over Ukrainian wheat

Photo: BNR archive

Bulgarian grain producers have called for a meeting with the caretaker Minister of Agriculture Yavor Gechev because of the unregulated import of cheap wheat and sunflower from Ukraine. This was reported to BNR by Shumen Malomir Vlasov from the Association of Grain Producers from the Ludogorie region, Northeastern  Bulgaria.
If a meeting is not initiated, protest action will be taken.

The decision to block roads and hold protests was made by the Board of Directors of the National Grain Growers Association late last month.

According to the Bulgarian grain producers, there is a risk that the accumulated grain of unclear origin in the Bulgarian warehouses will leave local processing plants branded as Bulgarian production.
