Petrohan pass along E-79 road from Vidin with Thessaloniki closed for heavy trucks

From June 22, the movement of trucks over 12 tons and with trailers and semi-trailers will be stopped through the Petrokhan pass on the E-79 road connecting Vidin with Thessaloniki, the Road Infrastructure Agency announced.

The traffic of heavy goods vehicles was allowed on the route after June 10 due to closure for widening of the branch for trucks on road E-79 through Mezdra.

According to the agency, a week-long traffic analysis showed that the road through the pass has a large unevenness, sharp turns and heavy traffic creates a risk of accidents. The detour of the repaired 11-kilometer section between the village of Lyutidol and the town of Mezdra will take place until December on the regional road network.

The Chamber of Motor Carriers in Bulgaria has called on the authorities to immediately stop the "chaotic actions" on the traffic to Northwestern Bulgaria. The chamber described the agency's decisions as an "experiment" with the transport industry and an "unnecessary test of the carriers' patience".
