Nearly 70 films from the major world festivals in Berlin, Cannes, San Sebastian will be presented at the 31st edition of the Varna Film Festival "Love is Folly".

Many of the titles come with awards from the world's leading festivals, and audiences will also be able to see films from the Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar for the first time. At the opening ceremony, with a video collage, the iconic personalities from Bulgarian cinema who left us this year - Emilia Radeva, Ginka Stancheva, Boris Lukanov, Angel Wagenstein were remembered, and the film director, animator and artist Anri Kulev was awarded for overall contribution to the development of the art of cinema.

For the 100th anniversary of Apostle Karamitev and 90 years since the birth of Boris Karadimchev, a special place has also been allocated in the program, which began with the tape "Jeanne du Barry: The King's Favorite".

The artistic director of "Love is Folly" Alexander Grozev pointed out that this year the festival is focused on the question "Is love madness?", to which the exhibition with wise thoughts, located in the lobby of the Festival and Congress Center, is also dedicated. "Obviously, love is not madness, because in the years we spent with a pandemic and all kinds of craziness that surrounds us, we opened our hearts wide and we want to love, live, feel together. This is also the meaning of our festival", emphasized Grozev.

The winner of the international competition will be determined by an international jury, chaired by Yana Titova.
