Three Bulgarian contestants are leaving for the Paris Paralympic Games 2024 taking place from 28 August until 8 September. The Bulgarian athletes will only be taking part in the Games on 2 of the days – Saturday and Sunday, 30 and 31 August.
All three Bulgarian contestants are track and field athletes, among them Olympic champion from Rio 2016 Ruzhdi Ruzhdi who will be vying for a medal in shot put in the F55 category (for people with full arm function, partial trunk function and no lower limb function).
Hristiyan Stoyanov will be competing in the 1500 m. Hristiyan is parathlete No. 1 for 2023 in Bulgaria and silver medal holder from Tokyo 2020. In Paris he will be competing in the T46 category (athletes with a single arm amputation).
Multiple medal holder Stela Eneva, discus throw, will be making a comeback at the Paris Paralympic Games. Her category is F57 (for people who compete in field events from a seated position). Eneva won the silver medal in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012, and she is now making a comeback after being suspended for nine years over doping.
The first time Bulgaria took part in Paralymic Games was in Seoul in 1988, and since then, Bulgarian athletes have won 5 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze medals. Of them, only one is not in track and field – the silver medal won by Polina Dzhurova, swimming, in Atlanta 1996.
