Attempts to enter the country illegally have fallen by 70% compared to 2023, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said in Brussels ahead of the European Council. Asked by BNR whether talks were underway with Turkey on the establishment of an offshore centre for illegal migrants, he said: "We have not started such negotiations yet, but they (the Turkish authorities - ed) are doing well enough to keep the migrants out. The main centre is actually in Turkey, we all know how many millions of migrants there are, so there is no need for further negotiations. I think our cooperation is good enough."

The prime minister declined to comment on whether Austria could drop its veto on Bulgaria and Romania's land borders with Schengen.

On the occasion of Wednesday's Corridor 8 meeting in Brussels, Glavchev pointed out that Bulgaria was welcome in EU formats because its positions were predictable and constant. Romania wants to join Corridor 8, Glavchev made news, as reported by BNR Brussels correspondent Angelina Piskova.
