The Big Band of the Bulgarian National Radio, conducted by Antoni Donchev, starts its new season tonight with a concert in Studio 1 of the BNR.
The programme features original music by Dimitar Bodurov - a Bulgarian pianist, composer and producer who has lived and worked in the Netherlands for a quarter of a century. He is known for his distinctive style, which combines jazz improvisation, classical composition, Bulgarian folklore and electronic sounds. In addition to the musicians of the Big Band, he will be joined on stage by Mihail Ivanov - double bass and Martin Hafizi - drums. Dimitar Bodurov has been working with both of them for years.
They will present his original project "Decagon", dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the RADAR festival in Varna, of which the pianist is co-founder and artistic director. Originally created for a chamber ensemble, "Decagon" consists of 10 compositions, each dedicated to a different number from 1 to 10. On 24 October, Bodurov will present "Decagon" in a version specially adapted for the BNR Big Band.
