The past year 2024 was the warmest year for Bulgaria since 1930. This is shown by the analyses of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology.

2024 had an average temperature for the country of about 2.1 °C above climate norms and about 0.5 °C warmer than the previous record year - 2023. It is characterized by the warmest winter and summer since 1930.

In July and August, Bulgaria was hit by a series of heat waves (consecutive days with maximum air temperatures ≥ 32 °C). They were widespread in the periods 6–24 July and 8–19 August. In the Sandanski region, a record 9 consecutive days with maximum temperatures above 40 °C were recorded in July.

In spring and autumn, average seasonal temperatures were also above climate norms, but with significantly smaller positive deviations. During the transitional seasons, the only 2 months with temperatures below normal were recorded – May (minus 0.8 °C) and November (minus 1.2 °C).
