Issuance of Bulgarian citizenship is frequently denied because the narrow interpretation is that the legal requirements do not explicitly set down the concept of Gagauz Bulgarian by origin. Such interpretations imply that the Gagauz in Bulgaria who are here and who have never emigrated anywhere are not Bulgarian.
