The Confederation of Labor "Podkrepa" has strongly opposed the proposed measures for a more favorable regime for hiring staff from non-EU countries.
"The government is proposing a measure to ease labor migration quotas, suggesting that up to 50% of a company’s workforce could consist of foreign nationals. Unfortunately, this proposal is not supported by a concrete analysis. It is unclear how it was calculated and the Confederation of Labor ''Podkrepa'' generally does not approve of such a proposal because it threatens the domestic labor market and creates conditions for increasing unemployment among Bulgarian citizens", Podkrepa Confederaion of Labor Chief Economist Atanas Katsarchev said in an interview with BNR.
Under the current regulations, workers from third countries cannot make up more than 20% of the workforce in a company, while for small and medium-sized enterprises, the limit is 35%.
