Only three regions of Bulgaria have an average pension exceeding 500 euros: Sofia, Pernik and Burgas. The capital has the highest average pension in the country at 580 euros. The lowest average pensions are in Razgrad at 392 euros. These are the latest figures from the National Social Security Institute, reported by correspondent Maria Kostova.

Currently, 4,735 pensioners receive the maximum pension of €1,738, out of a total of more than 2,054,000. Around 812,500 people survive on the minimum pension of €296.
