The government wants Parliament to adopt amendments to the Euro Act by the end of next week. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced this at a meeting of the Coordination Mechanism for Monitoring and Control of the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria, which he had convened. 'This bill must be adopted before the parliamentary recess so that the measures and opportunities it provides, which have been discussed with industry organisations and the institutions responsible for the practical introduction of the euro, can be implemented more effectively,' he explained.

Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova emphasised that the changes proposed by the cabinet provide for control over unjustified price increases throughout the entire period of dual price display — from 8 August to the end of 2026.

Traders with an annual turnover of over BGN 10 million will be required to publish the prices of goods in the large consumer basket on their websites, and the Commission for the Protection of Competition will summarise this information on a special platform. Penalties for violators will also be increased and calculated as a percentage of traders' turnover for the previous financial year.

BNB Deputy Governor Radoslav Milenkov announced that minting of Bulgarian euro coins has already begun. The logistics for delivering the banknotes have already been secured.
