Ministry of Economy: Prices in levs and euros must be the same size

Prices must be displayed in the same font size for both currencies, with designations that are clear to the consumer. There is no requirement which currency is written first. This was stated by the Minister of Economy and Industry Petar Dilov after a meeting at which guidelines were discussed for the implementation of the obligation for dual designation of prices of goods and services by traders and for payment in cash in euros and levs in connection with the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria. According to Dilov, the guidelines cover the period of dual designation of prices from August 8, 2025 to August 8, 2026. "The guidelines are not mandatory, but are important for business and for compliance with good practices," he pointed out.

After January 1, 2026, the law does not prohibit mixed payment, but traders are free to decide for themselves whether to accept such types of payments, the ministry said. When paying in cash, the change is returned entirely in euros, but in the absence of cash, it is returned entirely in levs. Dilov said that the business was ready for joining the eurozone and was fully aware of the benefits, since from January 1, 2026, the costs of currency conversion and maintaining lev and euro accounts will be eliminated, which, according to the ministry, will save about 562 million euros.
