On 7 September 2025, the village of Krepost in the Dimitrovgrad municipality will become a hub of Bulgarian culinary tradition, hosting the Krutmach Festival — one of the country’s most flavoursome food events.
Krutmach is an authentic Bulgarian cheese made from sheep’s milk using a centuries-old traditional method. It is celebrated for its tangy, sharp and salty flavour.

Kiril and Dobrina Delchev have revived this nearly forgotten tradition, and they will reveal the secrets of producing krutmach. Visitors can watch krutmach being made and sample other local specialities, such as cheese baked in clay pots. There will also be live demonstrations by master cheesemakers from the region.
Accompanied by the sounds of Bulgarian folk songs, the festival will create a lively atmosphere in which guests can sample traditional dishes and connect with local cheese and other natural product producers. This event promises to be an unforgettable journey into the world of Bulgarian gastronomy and the cherished traditions of this picturesque region.
