Possibilities of private companies to work in the railways have been expanded

The parliament has adopted changes to the Railway Transport Act. The amendments transfer the requirements of the European directives to the sector after the European Commission initiated a procedure against the country over insufficient regulation of the participation of private companies in the sector.

"Vazrazhdane", "MECH" and "Velichie" parties criticized the changes because they allow profitable state activities to be given on concession, while unprofitable activities will remain for state-owned companies.

Bulgarian Posts will continue to provide the universal service for another 5 years, which means they will deliver standard letters and parcels. This was also decided by the MPs with the adoption of the Postal Services Act, BTA reports.
