As part of the European Union, Bulgaria will join the EU’s decision to terminate in the short term - in 2026 - contracts for the use or transit of Russian natural gas, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said in New York, where he is attending the annual UN General Assembly, as quoted by the Council of Ministers.

''Since the derogation we insisted on so much was dropped, Russian oil is no longer being processed at the local Neftochim refinery'', Premier Zhelyazkov emphasized. He added that the country has already secured liquefied natural gas imports from the United States under very favorable conditions.

''The return of children to Ukraine is not part of the negotiation process. It is a condition that should be fulfilled for formal peace talks to begin'', Rosen Zhelyazkov said at a briefing with Bulgarian media in New York. "The children from the territories in Ukraine occupied by the Russian Federation, who pass through the so-called filtration camps, must be returned to their homes immediately", added Rosen Zhelyazkov.
