Bulgaria’s coalition parties have agreed to introduce a rotating chairmanship of the National Assembly.

At today’s joint governance council meeting, members also discussed next year’s draft budget.

Kostadin Angelov, Deputy Chairman of the GERB-SDS parliamentary group, said that the rotation of the parliament speaker would be formally included as an annex to the coalition agreement on Wednesday, 29 October. He clarified that the resignation of the current Speaker, Natalia Kiseleva, had not been discussed at the meeting.

The proposal for a rotating speaker was put forward by the parliamentary groups of GERB and There Is Such a People (ITN) in order to reflect shared governance within the coalition, and it has the backing of the Bulgarian Socialist Party – United Left.
