On the day the Orthodox Church celebrates the Feast of St. Archangel Michael, the National Archaeological Reserve "Deultum-Debelt" will mark 1,160 years since the Christianization of the Bulgarian people.

The event will be attended by Vice President Iliana Iotova, representatives of the church, state and local authorities, informs BNR-Burgas.

With the blessing of the Sliven Metropolitan Arseny, a thanksgiving prayer service will be served in the medieval church, preserved on the territory of a local metallurgical enterprise. The liturgy will be celebrated by Archpriest Damyan Plachkov from the churches "The Holy Theotokos" in Sredets and "Holy Nicholas the Wonderworker" in Burgas.
The festive program will continue with a reception for the official guests at the Archaeological Base "Deultum".

The ceremony will feature Svetoglas quartet - the first Bulgarian male vocal formation for ancient polyphonic music. On the occasion of 1160 years since the adoption of Christianity in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian National Radio released the album "Ancient Hymns of Orthodoxy. Music from the Monasteries", in which the Svetoglas quartet presents ancient church chants.

The territory of the archaeological reserve near the village of Debelt in Burgas Region is associated with the spread of Christianity throughout the Bulgarian lands. In the medieval church discovered on site, the first lead seal of Knyaz Boris I Michael was discovered. There is an assumption that it was here in 864 that the Bulgarian ruler himself was baptized.
