The tolerance of the Bulgarian people, proven over the centuries, is a guarantee against xenophobia and anti-Semitism, which have no roots in our society. This was stated by President Rumen Radev at a meeting in Sofia with Anne-Sophie Sebban-Bécache, Vice President for Europe of the American Jewish Committee, who is visiting our country.

"Bulgaria will always proudly preserve the history of the rescue of the entire Bulgarian Jewish community during World War II as a priceless example of humanism and empathy in one of the darkest periods in history," Radev stressed. He also stated that Bulgaria relies on the support of the American Jewish Committee to popularize this timeless moral lesson and bright example for humanity in the world.

Anne-Sophie Sebban-Bécache, for her part, pointed out that the significant example that Bulgaria sets to the world by saving its Jewish community during World War II should not be forgotten and is extremely important for the younger generation. She emphasized that many political leaders protect the Jewish community in their countries, but there are few countries where tolerance is an integral part of the identity of the entire society, as is the case in Bulgaria.
