To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a number of cities in Bulgaria will hold marches today under the slogan 'Not one more'.

The Bulgarian Fund for Women (BFW) will also be taking part in the marches. According to the fund, 22 women were killed by their partners or other male relatives in 2024, and at least 20 such cases were reported in 2023. BFW statistics show that 2,500 domestic violence-related crimes were reported in 2024, representing a 65% increase on 2023 figures.

The fund also notes that there are still no national statistics on domestic violence cases in Bulgaria.

A sociological study conducted in June, titled 'Hear My Voice', examined the needs and attitudes of victims of domestic violence. The study found that 74% of victims believe that state institutions turn a blind eye to violence.
