“We have to be very united in the tasks we set ourselves regarding the connectivity of the Balkans,” said PM Boyko Borissov in London where he is taking part in the 5th annual summit of the Berlin Process initiative.

The initiative aims to confirm the support for the European perspective of the countries of the Western Balkans. Boyko Borissov pointed out that at Bulgaria’s insistence, Greece is taking part in this year’s format because the Balkans must be considered overall and not individually.

Borissov stated that the European perspective of the Western Balkans was now closer than ever. “Bulgaria has made a huge amount of efforts on this priority – from the signing of the good neighbour agreement with the Republic of Macedonia, the meetings with the leaders of the six countries, through the consensus between Athens and Skopje on the name of the country, to the last sitting of the Council of the EU which set down the horizon for the pre-accession talks with the Republic of Macedonia and Albania,” the Bulgarian PM said.

Bulgaria was invited to London as a country which placed the European perspective of the Western Balkans countries in the focus of its Presidency of the Council of the EU, as well as at the summit held in Sofia on 17 May.
