The state institutions are doing everything to ensure the safe evacuation of Bulgarian sailors from the Tzarevna ship at Mariupol, Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev commented. "At the moment, though, it is better to refrain from discussing the topic, if we really want the operation to pass safely," Radev said.

"We will refrain from announcing the route accurately before the end of the operation", the director of the situation centre at the Foreign Ministry, Anton Markov, told BNT. He expects the Bulgarian sailors to be back to Bulgaria within 1-2 days.

The Russian army said it had captured Mariupol and showed footage of Ukrainian prisoners. According to Kyiv, the defenders of the city remain in the area of the metallurgical plants.

A fire disabled the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the missile cruiser Moskva. The crew of 500 people was evacuated. Ukraine says the missile carrier was hit by two missiles. There are reports of another small Russian ship sunk in the Sea of Azov.

The United States will supply Ukraine with $ 800 million in new military aid, President Joe Biden said. Since the beginning of the war, American aid has exceeded 2.4 billion euros. Howitzers and helicopters are being sent for the first time. Until now, Washington has refrained from supplying heavy weapons. Russia has threatened to resume bombing the capital Kyiv in response.
