Former ministers of GERB, as well as party leader Boyko Borissov, have requested that a draft decision be submitted to the National Assembly, obliging the caretaker government to review the Recovery and Resilience Plan and to renegotiate the commitment to close the power plants in the Maritsa energy complex.
In a statement broadcast on Facebook, GERB leader Boyko Borissov and MPs Temenuzka Petkova, Delyan Dobrev and Zhecho Stankov called on the trade unions to clearly express their position and support this decision by the end of the week. According to Borissov, this is the "last chance" to save more than 4% of the country's GDP. He also pointed out that it was very important to preserve the capacities in complex and start the construction of new nuclear power units, as otherwise Bulgaria could lose its place of electricity producer and turn into a customer.
Former Energy Minister Delyan Dobrev announced that GERB submitted a draft decision to the National Assembly on concluding an agreement with the United States for the construction of a seventh unit in the Kozloduy NPP and the licensing of a site for the eighth unit. Dobrev pointed out that the project will be discussed in the parliamentary committee on energy next week and expressed hope that it would be adopted in the plenary hall.
